ENVIRO-SHIELD® Brand Bonded Fiber Matrix from U.S. Gypsum Prevents Erosion and Help Promote Plant Growth
The Industrial Products Division of United States Gypsum Company has introduced an innovative erosion control product called ENVIRO-SHIELD® Brand Bonded Fiber Matrix that prevents both water and wind erosion while promoting plant growth.
Safe and non-toxic, the product is designed to be spray-applied in a variety of applications, including challenging conditions ranging from high elevations and steep slopes to areas that experience heavy rainfall. Because it is applied with conventional hydraulic seeding equipment, the matrix is more economical and faster to install than erosion control blankets or sod.
After the matrix’s unique blend of fibers and bonding ingredients is mixed together to form a slurry, it cures and creates a protective sprayed in place blanket. This blanket minimizes erosion and enhances germination by protecting the seed and optimizing growing conditions. In addition, the water-holding ingredients in the matrix help retain moisture from rainwater, fostering quick and effective generation of plant cover.
ENVIRO-SHIELD Brand Bonded Fiber Matrix is also the only product of its type that incorporates gypsum plaster as part of the mix. Gypsum supplies calcium and sulfur as nutrients to the soil, enhances the structure of heavy clay and sand soils, and buffers soil pH.
“The new bonded fiber matrix for erosion control is ideal for steep slopes and inaccessible or rough terrain where installation of blankets is difficult,” said Brad Fogel, market manager for U.S. Gypsum’s Industrial Products Division. “It also offers an excellent solution in areas where public safety may be a concern, such as around schools, golf courses, housing developments, retail areas, roads and airports.”
Packaged in 50-lb. bags, ENVIRO-SHIELD Brand Bonded Fiber Matrix is completely biodegradable and harmless to fish, birds, plants and animals.
